And for dinner we met some of our friends that were passing through town.  We went to a popular downtown burger joint called Graffiti Junktion.  I had a veggie burger patty in a wrap form (no cheese or mayo), with a side of deliciously crispy tater tots.

Great day of yummy eats!

Food i 8 today:

  • protein shake –> 1 C spinach, 3/4 C almond milk, 1 scoop Sun Warrior protein powder, 1/2 banana, ice
  • Publix dip chip carrots + Sabra hummus
  • 1 serving of the healthy garden salad
  • GNU peanut butter fiber bar
  • 1/2 veggie patty wrap
  • tater tots

Out n about all weekend

Saturday and Sunday were filled with LOTS of errands and of course…eating!  We were furniture window shopping, grabbing a few things to spruce up my work office, had a couple trips to the supermarket, and we met with a mortgage broker somewhere in there.

We went to the Sweet Tomatoes buffet for lunch Saturday, and here’s a peek at just some of the many plates of food I consumed:

I’m freakin obSESSED with Sweet Tomatoes.  Love love love it!

Later that night, we hit up happy hour at a local bar where I consumed two Bud Light drafts and 2 potato skins–yum!

Today we started out with lunch at Chipotle.

And dinner at Burger Fi.

Food i 8 today;

  • Chipotle salad bowl –> lettuce, black beans, fajita veggies, pico de gallo, guacamole
  • VegeFi burger –> quinoa burger patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and ketchup on a multigrain bun
  • feeling a little hungry…maybe a bowl of Vanilla gluten-free Chex cereal soon?

Finally some food pics

I finally took some food pics today!

Let’s start with my DELISH breakfast from Keke’s…

vegan lunch + junk food

Weight this morning:  131.2
Low weight:  128.4
Goal weight:  125
Height:  5’6″

Workout:  none.

Today I worked and worked at the computer and then realized I needed to break for some food!  I’ve been meaning to check out a local Orlando vegan joint, Dandelion Communitea Cafe, for lunch one of these days, so I went for it today.

20130507_salad

I opted for the Polynesian Banana Fantasy which is a combo of bananas, carrots, celery, cucumber, walnuts, raisins, and coconut flakes that you can have wrapped up in a whole-wheat tortilla, mixed with quinoa in a bowl, or mixed with spring mix in a bowl.  I opted for the salad style.  They gave me sides of both a curry dressing and a guac of sorts that they call “whirled peas” guacamole because it’s made from pureed peas.  In a nutshell:  It. was. awesome!  Everything combined perfectly.   Yum!

An hour or two later I had a MAJOR craving for an indulgent, heavy, terrible-for-me dessert.  So I stopped at a local bakery called Sister Honey’s and went to town.

20130507_cake

I ordered this four-layer coconut cake and my-oh-my was it sweet!  I could only manage to eat the cake part and the custard layers.  The icing was just tooooo rich for me to finish.

20130507_donecake

It sure did hit the spot!

Then, since I ruined my “good eating” with that dang slice of cake, I just continued with the junk food for dinner.  We went to a burrito joint and I just munched on these.

20130507_chips

And of course, as if this wasn’t enough, I went ahead and got a vanilla ice cream cone from Chick Fil A on the way home.  SO bad today!

Ya know, I think not working out puts me in a funk where I just care less about eating right.  On top of that, I know that I am going back to my apartment this weekend and will start teaching a summer course on Monday.   I’ll get back into my routine with exercising regularly and eating clean, so I’m just “living it up” until then.

Food i 8 today:

  • bananas, carrots, celery, cucumber, walnuts, raisins, coconut flakes over spring mix with whirled peas dressing
  • big ol’ slice of coconut cake
  • chips and queso
  • vanilla ice cream cone

Dessert Trio

Today I woke up, did some work, then headed out to our fave Orlando BBQ joint (4 Rivers Smokehouse) for lunch with the hubs!

20130423_bbq

I went with my usual–a side of fire roasted corn and a side of bread pudding.  SO DARN GOOD!  I ate only half at the restaurant since we ate around 11am, and I wasn’t particularly hungry yet.  I ate the other half later in the afternoon.

On the way home from lunch, I stopped by my favorite Orlando spot for vegan and gluten-free desserts–Drunken Monkey.  I’ve been addicted to their Anzac biscuits for a while, but I decided I wanted to switch it up and try something new.  I could NOT decide on just one item, so naturally I went with three.

20130423_dessert

(1) a vegan and gluten-free chocolate chip cookie bar, (2) a small gluten-free double chocolate cookie, and (3) a small gluten-free chocolate chip cookie.

After I ate the rest of my BBQ sides this afternoon, I decided to do a little taste test and commit myself to NOT polishing off all three, especially if they didn’t taste good.  The result:  the cookies were not so great, so I trashed both of them.  The cookie bar was delish, so I saved the rest for my after-dinner snack.  Perfecto!

Dinner was a Chipotle salad.

20130423_chipotle

I really didn’t need to eat all of this, but I did!  My belly is FULL and happy now!

Food i 8 today:

  • side of fire roasted corn
  • side of bread pudding
  • bites of:  (1) a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie and (2) a gluten-free double chocolate cookie
  • entire vegan and gluten-free chocolate chip cookie bar
  • Chipotle salad –> romaine lettuce, black beans, fajita veggies, pico de gallo, guacamole

Disappointing Dessert

Weight this morning:  130.4
Low weight:  128.4
Goal weight:  125
Height:  5’6″

Workout:  25-minute jog/walk

I did some work this morning and then went on a short jog/walk in the early afternoon.  My foot is sore from all the walking this weekend, which is frustrating!  I guess this means it’s not completely healed.  I think I’m going to rest it again…or at least try to not be on it as much.

First up on the food agenda was my go-to protein shake.

20130422_shake

After this I had a snack of some vegetable chips, as well as cucumbers and hummus.

20130422_cucs

I ended up eating only half of those cucumbers…I thought I could do an entire one, but I didn’t make it.

Dinner was one of our Orlando faves–BurgerFi.  I went with my usual quinoa burger (no cheese) on lettuce wraps in lieu of a bun.

20130422_burger

Dessert came in the form of a Publix strawberry cake with buttercream frosting.

20130422_cake

It actually wasn’t as satisfying as I anticipated.  I shouldn’t have eaten it.  It wasn’t that great.  I’ll remember that for next time!

Food i 8 today:

  • protein shake –> 1 C spinach, 3/4 C almond milk, 1 TBSP sunbutter, 1 scoop Sun Warrior chocolate protein powder, 1/2 banana
  • vegetable chips
  • 1/2 cucumber + Publix jalapeno & cilantro hummus
  • quinoa burger on lettuce wraps with pickle, onions, and ketchup
  • 1/2 of a huge onion ring
  • slice of Publix cake

Wawa and a concert

Weight this morning:  130.8
Low weight:  128.4
Goal weight:  125
Height:  5’6″

Workout:  lots of walking around a theme park

Today I had my first EVER Wawa sub sandwich!  Wawa is a gas station/convenience store that has a HUGE following, particularly among east coasters.  Anyway, they are supposedly known for their awesome sandwiches, so I gave their veggie sub a try today.

20130420_wawa

This was a good sub, don’t get me wrong, but I would still choose my Publix veggie sub over this one any day!  I ❤ Publix.  My husband is pretty keen on Wawa sandwiches, though, so I’m sure we’ll be back for more Wawa goodness in the future!  🙂

We spent the rest of the day at Universal Studios in Orlando–woohoo!  We went to a concert there in the evening, which was awesome.  My brother has a hook-up with the band, so we got some free food backstage for dinner.  I had a plate of Mediterranean food (Greek salad, hummus, veggies….mmm) and THREE desserts, yes 3.  Two cookies and a serving of an apple cobbler.  Delish.

After the concert, we went out for some late night drinks and eats.  We split a plate of loaded cheese fries and a sampler with spinach dip, mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and fried mushrooms among our group.  Good stuff, but blaaaah I didn’t need all that fried food!

Food i 8 today:

  • Wawa 6″ veggie sub
  • plate of Mediterranean food
  • 2 cookies + apple cobbler
  • loaded cheese fries
  • 1 mozzarella stick, 2 fried mushrooms, too much chips and spinach dip!

Not my healthiest day…

Today I was bad.  I was out with family and just let myself go.  A little too much.  We went out to three restaurants (lunch, snack/happy hour, dinner).

#1:  4 Rivers Smokehouse

I had half a side of some fire roasted corn,

20130411_corn

a deeeelicious entire side of bread pudding,

20130411_bread

and about 1/2 of this ginormous double chocolate cookie, which I nibbled on throughout the afternoon.

20130411_cookie

#2:  Wildside BBQ

I was still pretty full from lunch, so when we hit up this place mid-afternoon, I just sipped on some Diet Coke and ate some fried pickles.

#3:  Rocco’s Tacos

This is when I kind of just let the good times roll…

I started with a glass of red sangria.  Then we ordered some chips and salsa.  Then we got some tableside guac made.  (AWESOME!)  Then I had WAY too many chips…I can’t help myself with chips and dips.  Too yummy!  Then I ordered a small salad.  Then I came home and nibbled some more on my chocolate cookie.

And now I feel stuffed to the brim.  Back on track tomorrow…

Food i 8 today:

  • entire side of bread pudding
  • 1/2 side of fire roasted corn
  • 1/2 of a HUGE double chocolate cookie
  • maybe 5 fried pickles
  • one glass of red sangria
  • TOO MANY chips + salsa + guac
  • black bean salad
  • 1/4 of a HUGE couble chocolate cookie

local eats

I’m still resting my foot today!  I was going to do the upper body workout from yesterday again, but I’m actually a little sore, so I’ll do it again on Wednesday and Friday, giving myself rest days in between.  I worked at my computer for a while this morning, and when I got hungry, I still made my Sun Warrior protein shake since I love it so much!

20130409_shake

Later I snacked on some carrots and hummus…

20130409_hummus

…and some vegetable chips.

20130409_veggiechips

We checked out a “new to us” restaurant here in Orlando called Spooky’s Black Cat Cafe.  It’s a small, hole-in-the-wall, local type joint (my fave!).  We started with the server-suggested beer bread and cheese.

20130409_bread

Mmmmm…it was spot on.  Delicioso.  The hubs and I devoured it.

Next up, I went with a small salad filled with spinach, apples, tomatoes, feta, craisins, and maybe a few other goodies.

20130409_salad

I just had to show my husband’s selection, too.  He went with the BBQ pulled pork and waffles with mac and cheese.  He was pretty impressed.

20130409_waffle

Sadly, dessert was the only disappointment.  I took a chocolate and peanut butter cake to go.

20130409_cake

It was quite dry and just tasted like it had been in the glass case for a while.  I only ended up eating about 1/3 of it before stopping myself from wasting calories on something not-so-tasty!  I stole a few bites of my husband’s sweet plantains from Pollo Tropical, though.  😉

Overall, I would definitely recommend this local joint to anyone.  We LOVED everything we ordered (minus the dry cake slice).  I really like supporting local restaurants like this, so we’ll definitely be going back in the future!

Food i 8 today:

  • protein shake –> 1 C spinach, 1 C almond milk, 1 TBSP MaraNatha sunflower seed butter, 1 scoop Sun Warrior chocolate protein powder, 1/2 banana
  • carrots and Publix jalapeno and cilantro hummus
  • vegetable chips
  • one slice of beer bread + cheese
  • small salad
  • a few bites of mac & cheese
  • 1/3 of a chocolate peanut butter cake slice
  • a few bites of sweet plantains

upper body pyramid workout

Low weight:  128.4
Goal weight:  125
Height:  5’6″

Workout:  upper body strength (see below)

So I hurt my foot a little while back.  I maybe just pulled something in the arch/ball area of my right foot.  I think it happened during the fitness challenge at my gym when I was attending LOTS of group fitness classes.  I kind of ignored it for a while, but now every time I do an intense cardio class or spend the bulk of a day walking (or moving an in-law), it starts to bother me again.  Anyway, in an attempt to let this minor foot injury heel, I’m giving it a rest this week.  But that doesn’t mean I can’t go crazy with an upper body workout!

All I have to work with here are two 10-pound weights.  I found a  workout from Julie over at Peanut Butter Fingers (this post).  It looked good enough for me, so I went with it.  It’s a pyramid workout that includes:

  • 10 pushups
  • 20 dips
  • 30 bicep curls
  • 40 second plank
  • 50 tummy tuck planks (I subbed for 50 bicycle crunches to minimize the pressure on my foot)
  • 40 second plank
  • 30 bicep curls
  • 20 dips
  • 10 pushups

I went through the pyramid twice and it took me about 20 minutes.  Quick and effective.  But, onto the important stuff…FOOD!

I brought my protein on this trip, so I whipped up a smoothie today.

20130408_shake

We went to an Orlando favorite–BurgerFi–for a late lunch/early dinner.  I went with  a double-quinoa burger with lettuce leaves instead of a bun.  I topped it with ketchup, pickles, onions, and tomato.  SO GOOD!

20130408_burger

The hubs ordered a boatload of onion rings, and I had the smallest one in the pile (which was still rather large).

20130408_rings

I grabbed an Anzac cookie from the Drunken Monkey cafe for dessert.

20130408_cookie

It was a pretty good day of eats!

Food i 8 today:

  • protein shake –> 1 C spinach, 1 C almond milk, 1 TBSP Trader Joe’s creamy almond butter, 1 scoop Sun Warrior chocolate protein powder, 1/2 banana
  • quinoa burger @ BurgerFi
  • a smallish jumbo onion ring
  • Anzac cookie from Drunken Monkey
  • a few bites of Trader Joe’s creamy almond butter
